This April, 3 South African feature films will be on the local cinema, all proudly finished by Ladies & Gentlemen Films. We had a busy 2016, and the fruits of that hard work will be available to view this year.
Keeping Up with The Kandasamys has proved to be a runaway hit with local audiences, with over R12 million rand in box office revenue to date. The film was produced by Helena Spring and directed by first time director Jayan Moodley.
Die Rebellie van Lafras Verwey, a drama based on the work of fiction by Chris Barnard, was produced by legend Katinka Heyns and crafted by her son, director Simon Barnard. This intriguing film was recently released to much critical fan fare, receiving a 5/5 rating from both Die Burger & Beeld newspapers.
Beyond The River , one of few sports films to come out of our industry, its an inspirational piece of cinema from the team that brought you Material. The film is due to release later this month. The film was directed by Craig Freimond and produced by long time collaborators Robbie Thorpe, Ronnie Apteker as well as Harriet Gavshon and Mariki van der Walt.
And finally, VAYA will be on the South African circuit around August this year. Its currently completing its international festival run, having been entered into competition for both Toronto & Berlin Film Festivals. The film is Directed by Akin Omotoso and produced by Robbie Thorpe.
